Website Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in PikesPeakWriters.com.

The following guidelines pertain to submitting content items for the Pikes Peak Writers web site.  We are always interested in content that can benefit the membership, visitors and potential members, and the communities we serve.  If you would like to submit to our members NewsMagazine, please read our NewsMagazine Submission Guidelines. We are a non-profit organization and we do not pay for articles published on our website. You will, however, receive a byline credit.

General Guidelines for All Submissions:

We do not accept fiction for publication on this web site.  Material must be original non-fiction related to writing and writers; the craft of writing, marketing and promotion for writers, and the publishing industry .  If you have published the materials elsewhere, in paper form or electronically, you must own the appropriate reprint rights.  Materials cannot be published in whole or in part if they are not the original creation of the submitter.  Important:  See Links and News Feeds sections below for ways that you can present relative external content to our members and visitors.  Material must pertain to the mission of Pikes Peak Writers and provide value to the members and communities we serve.  Final determination on publication of any materials is the responsibility of the Web Content Editor.  Some topics and subject matter may require approval of the Board of Directors prior to publication.

FORMATTING - IMPORTANT:

All submissions for the web must be in PLAIN TEXT. ONLY the following HTML tags are allowed: strong, em, h1, h2, h3, h4, and blockquote. Do NOT use imbedded tags for fonts, colors, or styles.

Website Images: You must have legal rights to include images. Images that are taller than wide or square images must be sized to 150 pixels in with. Images that are wider than tall must be sized to 200 pixels in width.

Member-submitted items that can be submitted directly, through electronic means:

The following items may be submitted electronically by MEMBERS of Pikes Peak Writers.  These submissions are moderated, meaning that they will be subject to cursory review prior to, or soon after website publication.

Website Links. If you have a website, or a favorite writing related website, and you are a member of PPW, you may submit a web link by clicking the "Submit a Web Link" item in the User menu.  (You must be logged in to submit a link.)  Links will NOT be published until reviewed by site staff.

Sweet Successes: Have a book or story sale?  Let everyone know by submitting a Sweet Success article.  Just complete the submission form using the "Submit Sweet Success" link on the Member's Hideaway menu.  Sweet Success articles will be published after staff review.

Calendar EventsMembers can post calendar entries for book signings, conferences, promotional stops and other writing related events.  Click on the "Submit an Event..." link in the Calendar drop down menu at the top of the page.  (You can also click the "Add an Event" link below the calendar on the main calendar page.)  Calendar events will be published immediately, and an alert is emailed to staff for moderation.

Non-Member submissions of the above items should be sent to the Web Editor.

News Articles, Announcements, Program Reviews, Craft Book Reviews, other General Content:

Up to 1,000 words.  Longer submissions may be appropriate for some subject matter, but most site visitors will not read an article much longer than 300 words.  These articles must be related to writers and writing.  Advertising, commercial promotion of writing related services (e.g. editing, book design, book doctoring, printing, self-publishing) are prohibited.  Commercial promotion for non-profit organizations, and the books of our members are allowed.  Please submit to the Web Editor.

Other Items:

NewsFeeds:  RSS and Atom syndication feeds for websites and blogs that are of general interest to our members and visitors can be submitted here.
