NaNoWriMo is a shortening of National Novel Writing Month, and is a challenge to all writers to write 50,000 words in the month of November. This is a great way to get a huge jump start on that next project.
Here at Pikes Peak Writers, we realize that not all writers are created equal. Some may be in the middle of a project and just want to finish the novel off during NaNoWriMo. Others may be on a fresh start of that new epic fantasy that will run over 100,000 words, so 50,000 is just the “half way” point for them. We’ve taken NaNoWriMo and shifted it just a bit. We call this NaNoTryMo. In other words, November is the month to try and accomplish your own personal goals. If you have a “mere” 20,000 words before typing “The End,” then set that as your goal. If you’re starting off on something considerably longer and think you can do it, then maybe a goal of 70,000 or even 80,000 words might be your target.
Whatever your aspirations and goals are, we’ve organized a plethora of write-ins. We’ve spread these write-ins around town, around the clock, and around the month in hopes that as many of you as possible can make several of them.
The local branch of NaNoWriMo is holding a multitude of official write-ins throughout the month, as well, including a pre-November kick-off event. For more information, you can go to the local calendar of events here. You’ll find several of our events on the calendar, as well!
Good luck on hitting your goals, and may your fingers never miss the keyboard!
